How the list is built
- The calendar shows the holidays for a year and place, each tagged with its kind: public and bank holidays alongside observances and optional or school days.
- It follows your detected location down to the sub-national region, so somewhere with its own holidays, such as Scotland within Great Britain, shows a different list.
- When a holiday lands on a weekend, some countries move the day off to a nearby weekday, and the list shows that substitute date.
Worked examples
- In 2026 the substitute for United States Independence Day is listed on Friday 3 July, and the United Kingdom's Boxing Day substitute on Monday 28 December.
- Scotland's 2026 list adds 2 January, a public holiday the rest of Great Britain does not take.
Common questions
- Is every holiday in the list a day off?
No. Public and bank holidays are usually days off, while observances and optional or school days are usually ordinary working days; each entry shows its kind. Whether a holiday actually counts as a day off is what the business-day tools decide, and that is certified only for the five verified countries.
- How accurate is my country's list?
For the five countries with verified data (the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Israel) the set is checked against official government sources. Every other country is shown from the open-source holiday dataset the site is built on, without independent verification.
